About this route
From Fancy Gap through the rolling high country of southern Virginia, past Mabry Mill and Rocky Knob, to US-220 at Roanoke. Meadows, farms and split-rail fences, with gentle curves. Speed limit 45 mph at most, no trucks, and no fuel on the Parkway itself: plan your stops in the towns just off it. Sections close in winter and in bad weather. When we imported this route, our map data showed the Parkway around Roanoke closed, so stage 5 starts at US-460 on the other side of the city.
