New on Motarva: find routes from your own starting point

This week you can search from your own starting point for the first time, and the list and the map work better together. Here is what changed.

Search from your own starting point

Next to “Where to?” there is now “From”. Enter where you set off, say Ghent, pick where you want to ride, such as the Ardennes, and you get the routes in three groups: “From your start”, “Join on the way” and “Once you are in the Ardennes”. “Plan a curvy route” has the Route Maker turn it into a ride straight away. Your starting point is not in the link, so it does not travel along when you share a plan. You find the search on the homepage, in the bar at the top and on your phone behind the magnifier; it also shows the region you are looking at.

One set of filters for the list and the map

Set a distance or curviness filter in the route list, tap “Map”, and the map opens with exactly the same filters. Going back to the list works the same way. Want to start over? “Clear all” now sits on the page itself, not only inside the filter window.

A calmer map

The map opens on the area that goes with your language. In the dark theme the big roads are softer, so the routes stand out.

Direction and places on the map

On the map of a route page, small dots run along the route, so you see at a glance which way it goes. Places along the road, such as fuel stations and viewpoints, show as small dots from afar; zoom in and they become pins with an icon.

The Route Maker tells you straight away

Ask the Route Maker for a route that cannot be made, say to an island while you avoid ferries, and it now says so at once instead of showing a general error. Switch an option such as avoiding tolls on or off after generating, and it works the route out again right away.

On your phone

Hold your phone sideways and zoom and layers stay within reach. The cookie notice is smaller and stays dark on the dark site.

Small things

“I rode this” is now a round check mark on the route page, green once you have ridden it. And adding a photo to a route works again.
