Motorcycle routes through the Netherlands with free GPX
The Netherlands rides differently from its neighbours. There are hardly any mountains, but there are winding dike roads along the water, the rolling hills of South Limburg and long quiet roads through heath and woodland. Pick the kind of ride that fits your day.
Below are routes that start in the Netherlands or ride a good stretch through it. Check them on the map and download the GPX free for your sat-nav.
South Limburg: the only real hills
South Limburg is where the Netherlands gets its elevation. Roads climb and drop through the Heuvelland and the Geul valley, past half-timbered villages and sunken lanes, up to the Vaalserberg at the three-country point. The distances are short, the curves many, and Belgium and Germany are never far away.

Zeeland: dikes, water and wind
In Zeeland you ride along dikes, over dams and past the Delta Works, with water on both sides. The roads are flat but rarely straight for long. Wind is the factor to plan for: on the open dams it can push you around more than you expect.
Brabant and Overijssel: quiet roads inland
Inland, the riding is about calm roads through woods, heath and river valleys, like the Vecht valley around Ommen. It suits relaxed touring, a classic bike or a ride with a passenger who likes to look around.

Watch the speed limits and the cyclists
Many rural roads in the Netherlands have a limit of 60 km/h, and cyclists are everywhere, often on the same road or on a path right beside it. Check the signs, keep an eye out at junctions and expect farm traffic on narrow dike roads.
