Putting a GPX route on your Garmin
Found a motorcycle route on Motarva? Download the GPX and import it on your Garmin. The exact steps differ per model, but the two methods below work on most compatible devices.
Check your Garmin model first
Garmin uses different apps and import methods. A zumo, a Motorize system, a DriveTrack or an Explore device can show different menus. Check the official manual for your device too, and install available updates.
Via your computer and USB
- 1 Open the route on Motarva and download the GPX file.
- 2 Connect your Garmin to the computer with a USB cable.
- 3 Open the device in your file explorer.
- 4 Copy the GPX file into the Garmin folder and then the GPX folder, when your device has one.
- 5 Eject the device safely and restart it.
- 6 Open the route or track via the route planner, saved routes or tracks. The naming differs per model.
Via a compatible Garmin app
- 1 Download the GPX file on your phone.
- 2 Open your phone's share function and pick the Garmin app that belongs to your device.
- 3 Import the route or track and sync the paired device.
- 4 Open the route on the Garmin and check the full track.
Check for recalculation
A sat-nav can recalculate a route based on its map version and routing preferences, so the track can deviate. Compare the imported route with the map on Motarva and check the waypoints, start and end in particular.
GPX, TCX or FIT?
GPX is the safest general pick. Some Garmin apps and devices also support TCX or FIT. Only use an alternative format when your device or app explicitly supports it.
