How XP and levels work

Last updated October 17, 2026

You earn XP for sharing routes, when other riders download or ride them, for reviews and for riding with the app. XP raises your level, from Rider to Iron Rider. XP is just for fun: it has no monetary value.

  2. Levels
  3. No money, no shop

What earns XP

  • Joining Motarva.
  • A route of yours going public for the first time (made in the Route Maker or uploaded).
  • Another rider downloading a route you made (once per rider).
  • Writing a review.
  • Another rider riding a route you made.
  • A photo you add to someone else’s route (the XP comes once the photo has been up for 7 days).
  • Kilometres you record or navigate in the iPhone app: 1 XP per km.
  • Inviting riders who join and take part (see Leaderboard and invites).

Levels

Rider, Explorer, Navigator, Pathfinder, Trailblazer, Road Captain, Legend and Iron Rider. Your profile shows your level and how far you are from the next one.

No money, no shop

XP and badges are just for fun. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for cash and are never spent. We can adjust XP values and levels, and remove XP earned by gaming the system.
